Improving the Patient Experience and Decreasing Patient Anxiety With Nursing Bedside Report
Conclusions:
Journal responses showed communication played a significant role in patients’ perceptions of their patient experience. Because patients exhibited different baseline anxiety levels, assessing anxiety level on admission may help nurses develop plans of care that improve the patient experience. Clostridioides difficile is a leading cause of hospital-associated diarrhea and a tremendous burden on healthcare systems increasing morbidity, mortality, and financial strain. In a method similar to the process for developing nationally recognized educational standards used to develop the competencies, the program was revised based on an iterative, stepwise process. Using Videoconferencing for Verbal Reports to Improve Clinical Nurse Specialist Student Performance

A concise, clinically relevant verbal report template, combined with videoconferencing that allowed for frequent and immediate feedback from faculty, improved student communication competencies. Integrating Research and Quality Improvement Using TeamSTEPPS: A Health Team Communication Project to Improve Hospital Discharge

Led by unit-based clinical nurse specialists, use of an integrated process of quality improvement and research creates evidence-based innovation to solve interprofessional practice problems. Incorporating research within the project design allows for data-based decisions to inform the clinical process improvement, as well as documentation of both the processes and outcomes of the local improvements that can inform replications in other sites. Pilot Evaluation of a Functional Pain Assessment Scale
Purpose/Aims:
Common pain assessment tools measure intensity, ignoring other dimensions of pain like function. The aim of this study was to test the psychometric properties of a newly developed functional pain assessment scale (FPAS) for use in clinical practice.
Design/Methods:
In this descriptive correlational study, an FPAS was developed and then evaluated against 2 validated pain tools in 68 hospitalized adult patients experiencing acute and/or chronic pain. These tools included the numeric pain rating scale and a 100-mm visual analog scale.
