Nurses ’ alarm fatigue, influencing factors, and its relationship with burnout in the critical care units: A cross-sectional study
Excessive number of alarms and false and nonactionable alarms may lead to alarm fatigue. Alarm fatigue could easily contribute to burnout. Burnout may reduce nurses' sensitivity to alarms, thus affecting patients' safety due to insufficient response to the alarms. However, no study has examined nurses ’ alarm fatigue in Ghana. The effect of age on clinical dose equivalency of fentanyl and morphine analgosedation in mechanically ventilated patients: Findings from the ANALGESIC trial
The dose equivalency of fentanyl vs. morphine is widely considered to be approximately 1:100. However, little is known about the effect of age on this ratio when these agents are used as infusions for analgosedation. (Source: Australian Critical Care)

A single-centre observational study of delayed defaecation in brain-injured patients in an adult intensive care unit
The incidence of delayed defaecation is high in enterally fed ventilated patients in intensive care units (ICUs). Those with brain injury may be harmed by increased intracranial pressure if delayed defaecation leads to abdominal distension. There are no studies evaluating a bowel guideline in the treatment of delayed defaecation in ventilated brain-injured ICU patients. (Source: Australian Critical Care)

Three-year mortality, readmission, and medical expenses in critical care survivors: A population-based cohort study
Due to the increasing number of critical care survivors, population-based studies on the long-term outcomes after discharge are necessary to inform local decision-making. (Source: Australian Critical Care)

Developing a consensus-based definition of out-of-hospital clinical deterioration: A Delphi study
Clinical deterioration is a time-critical medical emergency requiring rapid recognition and intervention. Deteriorating patients are seen across various healthcare settings, including the out-of-hospital (OOH) environment. OOH care is an evolving area of medicine where decisions are made regarding priority and timing of clinical interventions, ongoing management, and transport to appropriate care. To date, the literature lacks a standardised definition of OOH clinical deterioration. (Source: Australian Critical Care)

Intensive care unit nurses ’ perceptions of debriefing after critical incidents: A qualitative descriptive study
Intensive care unit (ICU) nurses are exposed to critical incidents daily at their workplace, which may have long-term physical and psychological impacts. Despite the growing evidence supporting clinical debriefing in health care to prevent these impacts, a scarcity of literature exists to support its use in the adult intensive care setting. Advanced clinicians ’ experience of participation in an escape room scenario designed to consolidate crisis resource management principles: An exploratory pilot study
Intensive care outreach nurses are required to work as part of an ad hoc team to review and manage patients who are deteriorating outside of critical care environments. Nontechnical skills, such as those encompassed by crisis resource management principles, are essential when working in these situations. Used commercially for entertainment, escape rooms have recently been utilised by clinical educators to teach both technical and nontechnical skills. (Source: Australian Critical Care)

Prevalence of and predictive factors associated with high levels of post-traumatic stress symptoms 3 months after intensive care unit admission: A prospective study
Post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) following intensive care unit (ICU) treatment may increase morbidity and mortality. Therefore, it is important to identify patients at risk of suffering from such symptoms. (Source: Australian Critical Care)

Exploring the nurses' experiences in recognising and managing clinical deterioration in emergency patients: A qualitative study
Emergency Department (ED) patients are particularly at a  high risk of deterioration. The frontline nurses are key players in identifying and responding to deterioration events; however, few studies have sought to explore the whole process of recognition and management of clinical deterioration by emergency nurses. Identifying the barriers and facilitators to implementation of ventilator bundle in the nepalese intensive care unit: A descriptive qualitative study
A ventilator bundle is an effective preventive strategy against the development of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). However, in clinical practice ventilator bundle implementation is poor. Understanding the barriers to ventilator bundle implementation in low- and middle-income countries can inform the development of effective implementation strategies to reduce the burden of VAP.
