Germline mutations in mismatch repair (MMR) genes MSH2, MLH1, MSH6, PMS2 and EPCAM are responsible for Lynch syndrome, a hereditary cancer-predisposition disorder also known as hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC).
