Cervicitis
is an inflammation of the cervix which can be caused by tampons, IUD strings, chemicals or an infection of some description such as chlamydia or gonorrhoea. It can range from mild to severe and symptoms may include vaginal discharge, back and pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, bleeding following intercourse.
Generally a diagnosis is made via a cervical smear/pap test where a number of cells are removed for examination. Treatment will depend on how severe the infection is and what the cause of it is, but may include pessaries, creams and/or other antibiotics.
