Tomorrow begins the 14th Annual VIVA meeting in Las Vegas. The whole field of endovascular repair and intervention has grown exponentially since the first VIVA meetings. For example, the first endovascular repair of an abdominal aortic aneurysm was performed by Dr. Juan Parodi in 1990, but it took quite some time to be accepted as a standard of care. FDA Approves GORE TAG Aortic Endoprosthesis for Type B Descending Thoracic Dissections
W. L. Gore & Associates received FDA approval for its Conformable GORE TAG Thoracic Endoprosthesis to be used for repair of acute and chronic Type B dissections of the descending thoracic aorta. The device allows for procedures that would otherwise require a fully open thoracic approach. The GORE TAG received its initial approval from the FDA a year and a half ago for treatment of isolated lesions of the descending thoracic aorta.
