Successful management of cervical tuberculosis and severe kyphosis using polyetheretherketone expandable cage and titanium plate: A case report
This report details the successful treatment of a 27-year-old male with cervical tuberculosis and severe kyphosis. Surgical intervention involved prevertebral abscess evacuation, C5-C7 corpectomy, and insertion of a PEEK expandable cage with an anterior titanium plate. Postoperative care included a Philadelphia collar, and follow-up demonstrated restored cervical alignment and stability. The use of PEEK-based surgical interventions, as demonstrated in this case, represents a significant evolution in managing complex cervical conditions. The successful outcome highlights the potential benefits of PEEK expandable cages in ad...

Cervical Sagittal Alignment and Related Factor Analysis and Prediction Model in Patients Undergoing Revision Surgery After Anterior Cervical Fusion
CONCLUSION: The causes of revision surgery in cervical myelopathic patients after anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion/anterior cervical diskectomy and fusion are multifactorial. (T1S-CL)-C2S mismatch and high C2C7SVA are the best cervical sagittal parameters that increase the odds of revision surgery, and the effect is more enhanced when comorbidities such as smoking, low bone-mineral density, and increased levels of fusion are taken into account.PMID:38595101 | DOI:10.5435/JAAOS-D-23-00565 (Source: The Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons)

Postoperative Airway Management after Anterior Cervical Spine Surgery: Retrospective Neurosurgical Multicenter Study
Neurol Med Chir (Tokyo). 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.2176/jns-nmc.2023-0283. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAirway complications that occur after anterior cervical spine surgery pose a life-threatening risk, which encompasses complications including prolonged intubation, unplanned reintubation, and/or necessity of tracheostomy. The present study aimed to identify the surgical risks associated with postoperative airway complications in neurosurgical training institutes. A retrospective, multicenter, observational review of data from 365 patients, who underwent anterior cervical spine surgery between 2018 and 2022, at three such inst...
