James on GMA Live
Check out my nephew, James, on GMA Live.  As his aunt, I think I bear some of the credit for his coolness. http://gma.yahoo.com/video/couple-takes-selfies-118-nyc-153808781.html (Source: beth's myeloma blog)

June 2013 Lab Values
This is the latest report I have.  I had blood drawn at the beginning of June. You can click on the small image of the report to see it full size. It indicates that I’m still stable.  From quarter to quarter, there are small changes, but nothing significant.  Sometimes the values go up and … Read More → (Source: beth's myeloma blog)

Iron Deficiency Anemia
If you struggle with iron deficiency, and are not a meat eater, I can tell you a quick way to get 50% of your daily iron in one shot.  This is how I do it. Leg Rash? Bedbugs?
I don’t really blog much anymore, because I’m not being treated for my multiple myeloma these days.  It’s been pretty stable for nearly six years.  I try not to live in the myeloma world too much.  Actually, I don’t really even try.  It just works out that way.  When I first learned I had myeloma, … Read More → (Source: beth's myeloma blog)

I just found this
It’s been a while since this was written, but I just became aware of this NPR story about Minnesota Don.  Don’s an amazing person, in every way. Targeted Cancer Drugs Keep Myeloma Patients Up And Running Don Wright got diagnosed with multiple myeloma at what turned out to be the right time. It was 10 … Read More → (Source: beth's myeloma blog)

Yum yum sauce
A friend recently introduced me to a small fast food restaurant called Tokyo Express. Seriously, I could eat there every day.  At least twice a day. Tokyo Express is in a strip mall off the main drag.  It’s a small place, nestled between a tobacco shop and a beauty supply store.  I never went there … Read More → (Source: beth's myeloma blog)

The Myeloma Twins
During the time I was in treatment, I coordinated my doctor visits and chemo with another myeloma patient who lives about 25 miles from here.  We traveled to Chapel Hill appointments together and, when we were told the only treatment left to us was a stem cell transplant, we had ours together through The Duke Adult … Read More → (Source: beth's myeloma blog)

A new and fun way of eating fruits. No spoon, no knife, no mess!
I was grocery shopping a couple of days ago, and this thing called Buddy Fruits caught my eye in the produce department. I picked it up and looked at it, and couldn’t quite figure it out, but it seemed to have potential. I imagined using it on toast or on oatmeal.  Yeah, I could try … Read More → (Source: beth's myeloma blog)

Test results from February blood draw
I got these results last week.  Pretty much the only difference between these results and the last ones is that the IgA is about 200 mg/dL higher.  Last time, it was 663.  The m-spikes are the same.  This time, the kappa/lambda free light chain ratio is just inside the normal range.  IgM and IgG are … Read More → (Source: beth's myeloma blog)

IgM and IgG are suppressed, and at about the same levels they were in October.  Why the increase in IgA? My doctor suggested that it may simply be a normal immune response to something. (Source: beth's myeloma blog)

Advice from a cat lady
If you have cats, you probably have one that refuses to use the litterbox.  Instead, he or she zeros in on the piles of laundry in the laundry room, any soft cushion on your best piece of furniture, or, God forbid, your bed.  You’ve tried everything, but nothing’s working for this kitty.  There’s no litter … Read More → (Source: beth's myeloma blog)

October Lab Results
Everything’s pretty much the same as it was last time.  Still stable. Two m-spikes that add up to 0.8 g/dL.  The last time I had blood drawn, the test results were pretty much the same. (Source: beth's myeloma blog)
