In the UK, a university education is considered essential to provide nurses with the specialist skills and decision making needed in modern nursing. It’s important to note that many factors can affect patient outcomes, such as the presence of senior medical staff at weekends and the quality of hospital manageme...

Questions after Total Abdominal Hysterectomy – Echoe ’ s Story
I had a T.A.H. (total abdominal hysterectomy – ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, and cervix- as well as removal of 4cm cyst) via robotic laparoscopic procedure on the 17th of October – 4 small incisions in belly, discharged from hospital on the 18th. The spot that has been noticeably painful is the incision in my belly button. Due to lack of help at home, there have been several occasions where I bent down (didn’t use legs – didn’t think of it) to pick up something small from the floor, look under the bed, or load the dishwasher I’ve mostly stayed down since arriving home. Since coming home, the pai...

Emotional Roller Coaster – Susan’s Hysterectomy Story
Hi to you all, I don’t know where to start really, I’m not sure if I have enough space here to tell you the whole story but I will try. Okay I’m 44 years young, married to my wonderful hubby for 17 years but we’ve been together for 27 years! I can hear your brains calculating how old we were when we got together…well I’ll tell you, we were both 17 years old. Yes babies ourselves really. I went on the pill once we started to have a sexual relationship, I really didn’t want to be a young mum, so many girls where I grew up were all falling pregnant and then being left on their own wit...
