Halogenation of calix[4]arenes by [I(py) 2 ]I 3 & #xb7;2I 2 & #x2020;

Peter Hahn, Till Köhler, Martin Börner, Berthold Kersting [I(py)2]I3·2I2 selectively iodinates electron-rich phenol groups of calix[4]arenes. Less electron-rich aryl rings remain unaffected. Self-inclusion of iodinated calix[4]arenes occurs in the solid state.
