Make the patient speak and you will win a whole basket of baked goods.It is a gamble among the residents and medical students in the workroom that leaves the sour taste of lemons in my mouth. The patient is a young girl, 17, brought in after her parents were worried she had been feeling weak and tired and hadn ’t eaten much of dinner for at least a week. An episode where she nearly passed out is what finally prompted presentation. She is used to this. After a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus type I a few years ago, she has found herself in the hospital every few months with some complication: high blood s ugar, low blood sugar, urinary tract infection, dehydration, or weight loss.
