Pubescent Girl With Urinary Retention

An 11-year-old girl presented to the emergency department with a 1-day history of urinary retention and abdominal pain. She denied dysuria, urinary frequency, hematuria, and trauma. She had never menstruated and reported a history of behavioral urinary-holding presented as bathroom avoidance to continue playing. Vital signs were normal and abdominal examination revealed suprapubic discomfort and distention. Bladder ultrasound (US) showed urinary retention. Urine (800 mL) was evacuated with a Foley catheter.
