Herbal hepatitis due to use of alternative medicines for Lyme disease

We report a case in which Lyme disease was treated with an herbal mixture due to protracted symptoms despite intravenous antibiotics. This mixture was associated with hepatotoxicity. General providers should be aware of the fact that homeopathic remedies may be associated with hepatotoxicity, and herbalists need better understanding of the safety risks of the individual components in remedy mixtures.PMID:34970053 | PMC:PMC8682861 | DOI:10.1080/08998280.2021.1974272

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVentricular arrhythmias (VAs) triggers by sympathetic nerve hyperactivity contribute to sudden cardiac death in myocardial infarction (MI) patients. Microglia-mediated inflammation in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) is involved in sympathetic hyperactivity after MI. N6-methyladenosine (m6 A), the most prevalent mRNA and epigenetic modification, is critical for mediating cell inflammation. We aimed to explore whether METTL3-mediated m6 A modification is involved in microglia-mediated sympathetic hyperactivity after MI in the PVN. MI model ...

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFive new triterpenoids, including four ursane types (1-4) and one oleanane type (5), together with 15 known ursane types pentacyclic triterpenoids (6-20) were isolated from the fruit spikes of Prunella vulgaris L., a traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Their structures were elucidated based on IR, HR-ESI-MS, and NMR spectroscopic data. The SW579 cell line was used to evaluate anti-thyroid cancer activities of (1-20). The results indicated that (7-9), (16), and (19) exhibited apparent inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 25....

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHIV and hepatitis B are two of the most prevalent viruses globally, and despite readily available preventive treatments unforgiving treatment regimens still exist, such as daily doses of medicine that are challenging to maintain especially in poorer countries. More advanced and longer-lasting delivery vehicles can potentially overcome this problem by reducing maintenance requirements and significantly increase access to medicine. Here, we designed a technology to control the delivery of an antiviral drug over ...
