Quasi-two-dimensional coalescence of nematic and isotropic droplets and Rayleigh –Plateau instability in flat optical cells

Soft Matter, 2021, Advance Article DOI: 10.1039/D1SM01334C, PaperP. V. Dolganov, A. S. Zverev, K. D. Baklanova, V. K. Dolganov Different coalescence regimes are observed for isotropic droplets in a nematic environment and nematic droplets in an isotropic environment in flat cells. Wetting conditions on the cell surfaces play a key role in the development of instabilities. To cite this article before page numbers are assigned, use the DOI form of citation above. AbstractBackgroundDesmopressin acetate was recommended for nocturia in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients recently, but its effect and safety is still controversial. We aimed to establish a systematic review and meta-analysis to confirm its effect on symptom relief and adverse effects.MethodsA systematic search was performed in PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Medline, Web of Science and Science Direct databases from January 2000 to October 2021 for controlled trials of BPH patients comparing oral desmopressin with control groups. The mean difference (MD) and odds ratio (OR) were meta-analyzed.ResultsFour article...

Curr Sports Med Rep. 2022 Jan 1;21(1):15-17. doi: 10.1249/JSR.0000000000000926.ABSTRACTA 49-year-old woman with a history of daily inhaled corticosteroid use for asthma presented to a concussion clinic 7 wk after sport-related head injury with headache, visual blurring, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, polydipsia, and polyuria. Examination revealed difficulty with vestibulo-occulomotor testing due to nausea and visual straining. Cranial CT/MR imaging was unremarkable. Laboratory testing revealed critically low serum cortisol, hypernatremia, and urine studies suggesting diabetes insipidus. The patient was referred to the emergen...

In this study we investigated and characterized the molecular and pathogenic mechanisms through which a novel cysteine variant p.(Cys1084Tyr) causes an unusual, mixed phenotype form of von Willebrand disease (VWD). Phenotypic data including bleeding scores, laboratory values, VWF multimer distribution and desmopressin response kinetics were investigated in 5 members (2 parents and 3 daughters) of a consanguineous family. VWF synthesis and secretion were also assessed in a heterologous expression system and in a transient transgenic mouse model. Heterozygosity for p.(Cys1084Tyr) was associated with variable expressivity of ...

In this study, highly reducible CeO2-x nanoparticles are synthesized aiming to provide Cu/CeO2-x nanoparticles, which are classically active catalysts for the CO oxidation reaction. It is observed that the Cu nanoparticles shape changes during reduction treatment (prior to the CO oxidation reaction) from a nearly spherical 3D to a planar 2D shape, then enhances the Cu –CeO2-x interaction. The spread of the Cu nanoparticles over the CeO2-x surface during the reduction treatment occurs due to the minimization of the total system energy. The shape change is accompanied by migration of O atoms from CeO2 surface to the bo...
