Doing our part to address the opioid epidemic

Opioid-related deaths contributed to 71% of drug-related deaths nationwide in 2019.1 Many people are first exposed to opioids through postoperative prescription opioids.2 Prescription opioids remain a significant driver of later illicit drug use.3 Conversely, uncontrolled postoperative pain is associated with increased complications, poor recovery and quality of life.4,5 Exploring non-opioid postoperative pain relief is imperative to ensuring high quality of care.
