More Men Feeling Pressure To Stay Fit

http://media.boston.cbslocal.com/CBSBOS_0903201517282300000AA.mp4 BOSTON (CBS) – More men are feeling the pressure to have a “tight body” and appear lean and mean, affecting them in the way it’s long affected women, as Dr. Mallika Marshall reports. For years women have been held to a different standard when it comes to beauty and growing old gracefully, but more and more men are insecure about their appearance and are feeling as though others are judging them for how they look. As reported in today’s edition of The Boston Globe, Hollywood standards for men aren’t helping. Male celebrities are feeling the pressure to maintain that six-pack or at least avoid the flab, and social media has taken male body shaming to a whole new level, where unauthorized photos of celebrities are being posted with comments like “man boobs”, “new-found paunch”, and “worst beach body”. These standards are trickling down to non-celebrities. Studies have shown that body image pressure is becoming a bigger problem among teen boys, that men are spending billions of dollars on hair transplants, liposuction, breast removal, and even facelifts. And now many men are focused more on their appearance than on their finances or on their health.
