Pre-surgical assessment of mediastinal lymph node metastases in patients having ≥ 30 mm non-small-cell lung cancers
More small lung cancers are being identified, partly due to increasing use of computed tomography (CT) and CT screening. The 8th edition lung cancer staging classification recognized this trend and therefore subdivided Stage IA (T1a-1cN0M0) cancers, 30  mm or less in maximum diameter, measured in three dimension, into three T-categories (T1a, T1b, T1c). The N-lymph node categories (N0-N3) and M−categories remained unchanged, with mediastinal lymph nodes (MLNs) being designated as N2 or N3 lymph nodes.
