Woman's Adderall Prescription Could Earn Her Years In Japanese Prison

A young woman is in serious legal trouble after she was allegedly found with Adderall she had a prescription for. Jill Russell mailed her daughter Carrie's prescribed drugs to South Korea on Jan. 6, according to the Oregonian. Carrie Russell, 26, then mailed the three month supply to Nagoya, Japan, where she planned to start teaching English. On Feb. 20, Japanese authorities arrested Russell and accused her of smuggling Adderall, a drug commonly used to treat attention deficit disorder. Adderall is illegal in Japan. Russell is being held in solitary confinement and could face "years in prison" if convicted, the Oregonian reports. "We're left in a state of disbelief," John Russell, Carrie's father, said. "We would never imagine something like this assaulting us from a civilized country like Japan." Though it is illegal in Japan, Adderall is one of the most commonly prescribed drugs in America, according to NPR.
