Moving toward prediction with purpose

Like it or not, we live in a world dominated by prognostication. Almost everything is influenced, to some degree, by actuarial science —familiar examples include weather, sports, traffic, insurance, and medicine, which has not been immune to this phenomenon. Where there are data to be had, it seems there can now be prophecy, while the dawn of the new millennium ushered in many technologic advances to harness our increasingly data -dominated world. Consequentially, “risk” now seems to be ubiquitous and appears to drive so much of our behavior.
