Barriers and enablers to screening and diagnosing diabetes distress and depression in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A qualitative evidence synthesis
People with diabetes experience an array of diabetes-specific and non-diabetes specific mental health related issues [1]. For instance, diabetes distress and depression negatively affect diabetes self-management [2 –4] and are prevalent among people with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) [5,6]. Diabetes distress affects approximately 36% of people with T2DM [6], and depression is twice as prevalent in people with T2DM as in the general population [5]. Therefore, identification and management of these issues is a critic al part of T2DM care.
