Designing an Intimate Partner Violence Screening Program for Surgical Residents in Trauma

Intimate partner violence (IPV), defined as physical, psychological, and/or verbal harm by a current or former intimate partner, is a national and international public health issue.1 The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 25% of women and 10% of men have experienced IPV at some point in their lifetime.1 IPV carries significant short and long term health sequelae, ranging from physical injuries sustained during abuse to greater healthcare utilization with psychosomatic complaints and psychiatric problems.
