Body Mass Index Adjusted for Pubertal Status and Metabolic Risk
In a recent cross-sectional population-based study across race, Bomberg et al [1] found that adjusting for pubertal maturation in characterizing weight status reduced the prevalence of overweight and obesity. This indicates that body mass index (BMI) percentile-for-age overestimates weight status if maturation is unaccounted for. This is an important finding for those who practice pediatric obesity in a clinical setting.
