Digital foot health technology and diabetic foot monitoring: A systematic review
Diabetic foot ulcerations pose a great burden on health care economy due to the high risk of infection, hospital admissions and amputations. Several studies have reported that at least 40% of patients living with diabetes mellitus has experienced a recurrence within the same year of resolution of the previous ulcer1-5. This high recurrence rate may be attributed to the fact that despite the healing of an ulcer, causative factors for ulceration such as foot inflammation and increased foot plantar pressures are still present and not yet, or not being properly addressed6.
