As a child and adolescent psychiatry fellow and mother of a 9-month-old, one can imagine why the title Being There: Why Prioritizing Motherhood in the First Three Years Matters would catch my attention. I came across the book by Erica Komisar, an LCSW and psychoanalyst, while reading an article she wrote in the Wall Street Journal. A quick internet search touted this book as a “must read” for new mothers, with glowing endorsements by MDs, PhDs, and, of course, Amazon reviewers. I was also interested to read a book I assumed many caregivers would read, given that it had been featured on Good Morning America, Fox& Friends, and CBS New York.
