The need for a comprehensive vascular trauma registry

We would like to thank the authors for their commentary “A more holistic approach to limb salvage research in extremity vascular trauma through domain specific trauma registries.”1 We share their desire for a more comprehensive vascular-injury focused trauma database. Assessing details in a trauma patient, particularly those with vascular injuries, a t a large-scale level can be quite challenging. This process is particularly difficult when taking into account concurrent injuries.2,3 One only needs to look at their own retrospective single center data to see how difficult it can be to get an accurate assessment of confounders such as the timing of injury, exact time that revascularization occurred, or even a clear physical examination at different time points.
