Penetration of the gastric wall by an intrauterine device: a case report

A 31-year-old woman with epigastric pain underwent a “pi”-shaped copper bearing intrauterine device (IUD) placement 11 years prior while lactating approximately 14 months after delivery. The patient experienced intermittent epigastric pain caused by the IUD penetrating through the gastric wall. Removal required partial gastrectomy.
