Pregnancy Outcomes in Female Patients with Alopecia Areata: A Nationwide Population-Based Study

Alopecia areata (AA) is an inflammatory hair loss disorder characterized by different clinical presentations, from small alopecic patches to extensive hair loss. The pathogenesis of AA is not fully understood, although anagen hair bulb immune privilege (IP) collapse is accepted as a key mechanism (Paus et al., 2018). There are two main theories about IP collapse initiation: local disturbances in hair follicles and central immune system dysregulation (Rajabi et al., 2018).
