An audit of radiologist reporting room illumination levels

We wish to congratulate S. Papathanasiou et  al. for their work published in Radiography entitled ‘A systematic review of viewing conditions and monitor specifications in mammography’.1 In their study they reviewed the academic literature published around the viewing conditions and monitor specifications used in mammography, with their c onclusion indicating that diagnostic accuracy is negatively affected by the use of poor-quality monitors and inappropriate illumination levels. Appropriate illumination levels are not only crucial for diagnostic accuracy but is also important to manage inappropriate screen contrast, glare and to red uce eye fatigue.
