22.3 delirium and catatonia: special populations and comorbidity

Comorbidity of delirium and catatonia is recognized in the adult literature. However, the DSM-5 diagnosis of catatonic disorder due to another medical condition precludes the diagnosis of catatonia in the presence of delirium. This restriction creates a potential bias in clinical assessment and management and may impact treatment.
