9.9 utilization and outcomes of child psychiatry consultation to pediatric primary care practitioners

In the context of a national shortage of child and adolescent psychiatrists, pediatric primary care practitioners (PCPs) are managing an increasing number of patients with mental health disorders. In an effort to better support PCPs ’ provision of mental health services, currently 20 states offer telephonic and face-to-face (FTF) consultations with child and adolescent psychiatrists. We sought to examine the utilization and clinical outcomes of FTF child and adolescent psychiatrist consultations available to community pediatr ic practices affiliated with Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) through enrollment in the Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Program (MCPAP).
