12.1 observed ratings of excitable behavior in preschoolers corresponds to parent-reported ratings and predicts later externalizing symptoms

Emotion dysregulation is common in children, but its relationship to later psychopathology is unclear. Research has focused on the expression of negative emotion in the form of irritability; however, recent work has shown that parent-reported dysregulation including positive affect, or excitability, also affects outcomes. We evaluated whether observed behaviors indicative of excitability were able to be reliably assessed and related to parent-reported measures or later outcomes.
