Is Weight-Based Enoxaparin Dosing Safe to Use in the Setting of Traumatic Brain Injury?

Enoxaparin is the established treatment modality for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) chemoprophylaxis in trauma patients. Current literature suggests that weight-based dosing is superior to standard dosing for adequate chemoprophylaxis. While Brain Trauma Foundation supports the need for chemoprophylaxis, it does not have a specific recommendation for drug of choice or dosing. Additionally, there is limited literature regarding the use of weight-based enoxaparin in the setting of traumatic brain injury (TBI).
