Disease-Modifying Therapies: A New Face for Articular Temporomandibular Joint Disease

To the Editor: —The recent article by Laskin1 shed light on a heterogeneous group of pathologies that are generically allocated as “temporomandibular disorders” in search of effective guidelines and has already shown a way: dividing the etiologies into muscular and joint conditions. Muscular pathologies are more successful in clinical treatment and are much more frequent than those of joint origin.2 The pathologies that can affect the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) may have a similar evolution to the diseases that affect the other joints of the body; therefore, the evolution of degenerative joint dise ase that affects the TMJ is also similar to that affecting the other joints.
