KDOQI Clinical Practice Guideline for Vascular Access 2019 Update: Kinder, Gentler, and More Important Than Ever

In 1996, at a time when most of our current graduating trainees were still in middle school, a multidisciplinary group of physicians, with the strong support of the National Kidney Foundation, began creating a document that it was hoped would improve outcomes for end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients nationwide. A subset of that document, the Vascular Access section of the Dialysis Outcomes Quality Initiative Clinical Practice Guidelines (DOQI) (1), applied directly to day-to-day care provided by interventional radiologists.
