[Comparative evaluation of Iterative and FORE-Iterative reconstruction algorithms for PET/CT].

In this study, the properties of the reconstruction algorithm Iterative in comparison with the FORE-Iterative using 18F-FDG PET/CT data were evaluated. The study was conducted in the Department of Nuclear Medicine of Evangelismos Athens General Hospital, in which data from 9 patients were collected and reconstructed with both algorithms, Iterative and FORE-Iterative. For each patient, the image quality was assessed using parameters such as SUVmax, SUVpeak, SUVmean, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR). Regions of interest were defined based on medical expertise focusing on the tumor areas. Based on the results of this study, images reconstructed with Iterative algorithm have better image quality compared to the images reconstructed with FORE-Iterative algorithm, considering that this particular method improves SNR and CNR. Using the Iterative algorithm, the image becomes sharper due to reduced noise resulting in safer clinical observations, and as a result a more accurate diagnosis. PMID: 32361720 [PubMed - in process]
