Comment on: Severe Obesity and Vitamin D Deficiency Treatment Options before the Bariatric Surgery: A Randomized Clinical Trial

In this peer-reviewed submission, which is a single-blinded, randomized clinical trial on 100 patients who were referred for bariatric surgery in Iran from 2016 to 2018, the authors ’ objective is cited as one of comparing three different vitamin D treatment strategies. They measured serum vitamin D levels (as 25 OH vitamin D) among patients with Class III obesity before bariatric surgery and 7 weeks afterward and compared 25 OH vitamin D levels among the 3 groups. Exclusions from the study included patients with 25 (OH) vitamin D levels> 30 ng/ml (deemed normal Vitamin D level), previous history of hypocalcemia or hypercalcemia, and patient with renal or hepatic dysfunction.
