Comments on “Perioperative Outcomes and Predictors of Mortality after Surgery for Sigmoid Volvulus”

I read with great interest the article by Easterday et  al.1 on the outcomes of the emergency and elective surgical treatment of sigmoid volvulus (SV). Although SV, which is characterized by the wrapping of the sigmoid colon around itself causing a colonic obstruction (Figure), is a rare disease worldwide, it is endemic in eastern Turkey, where I pract ice.2 I and my colleagues have 53.5 y of experience (from June 1966 to January 2020) involving 1028 cases of SV. We have reported the largest series in the literature.
