Rural Hondurans embrace cancer screening opportunities

(Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center) Few people in low-income countries have access to cancer screening and their cancer rates are on the rise. To test the feasibility of cancer screening in a low-income country, researchers from Dartmouth's Norris Cotton Cancer Center and Honduran oncologists collaborated to maximize attendance at multiphase cancer screening events that identified risk of up to five different cancers. They found screening was well attended with unexpectedly high rates of compliance with referral for follow-up care.
