What do the Early Childhood Experts say about Screen Time for Toddlers?

Are you confused about whether you should let your toddler use a touchscreen? It’s understandable if you are because the experts have varying views on the subject as well. Here’s what some of the early childhood experts say: *The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) discourages media use by children younger than 2 years. *The White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity also discourages any screen time for children under 2 years of age. *For children over 2, The Center on Media and Child Health suggests “Try two fifteen-minute sessions in a week if your four- to five-year-old shows interest.” *A joint position statement of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children’s Media at St. Vincent College recommends that early childhood classrooms “limit any use of technology and interactive media in programs for children younger than two to those that appropriately support responsive interactions between caregivers and children and that strengthen adult-child relationships.” Is the conclusion inconclusive? There seems to be no conclusive answer from current research, so one can only make the best educated guess at this time regarding interactive technology and toddlers.
