Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia (Masson ’s tumour) of the lower eyelid—a rare tumour of the orbital region

AbstractIntravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia (IPEH) or Masson ’s tumour is a rare benign lesion of vascular origin commonly found on the head, neck, and upper extremities. Excessive proliferation of endothelial cells in vascular malformations or normal blood vessels is considered to be the aetiology and is generally a non-neoplastic reactive process. Typical ly, IPEHs cause no symptoms and present as slowly growing soft-tissue masses. Plastic surgeon should be aware of this rare entity, as it might pose as a malignant vascular neoplasm. The clinical entity, differential diagnosis, and management options are discussed.Level of evidence: Level IV, therapeutic study.
