Questions about med school and preparing

by mk20 (Posted Thu Oct 24, 2013 7:55 pm)The MCAT material is basic enough that in-depth study of any particular major will not give you much advantage. The more important thing is that you finish your pre-med courses before you take the MCAT. Some will argue that a biology major will better prepare you for the pre-clinical years of medical school. On the other hand, others will argue that college is a great time to study something unrelated to biology for personal development. As far as I know, SAT/ACT scores are not even considered in med school admissions. I know this is true of my med school. For pre-med success, intelligence certainly will help. But for most people, it takes a lot of diligence on top of some baseline intelligence to do well. Control what you can control, i.e. work hard. I'm unfamiliar with specific pre-pharm reqs, but I would imagine there is a lot of overlap with pre-med.
