Pediatric Unexplained Cardiac Arrest: When No Answer is Also an Answer

Although any pediatric cardiac arrest is a devastating event, cases in which a cause not is identified leave families and practitioners with many more questions than answers. The uncertainties of prognosis, optimal management strategies, and lifestyle recommendations for the patient as well as the potential risk for family members can be particularly problematic. Thus, in effort to establish an etiology, extraordinary measures are often taken to evaluate pediatric survivors of unexplained cardiac arrest (UCA).
