According to this study: A large-scale, multinational study shows that the four first-line drug classes used to initiate monotherapy for hypertension are generally comparable.Thiazide and thiazide-like diuretics, however, had effectiveness and safety advantages over angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors.
