Aortic and superior mesenteric artery embolectomy after paradoxical embolism

After recent revisional surgery for lumbosacral fusion, a 49-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with sudden-onset epigastric pain with nausea and vomiting. The patient's abdomen was soft, with mild diffuse tenderness without distention or evidence of rebound or guarding.
