Potential biomarkers for early detection of diabetic kidney disease

The magnitude of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing worldwide, hence with the increase in T2DM cases, its complications are expected to rise dramatically.[1] Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD) also known as diabetic nephropathy is a condition identified by reduced glomerular filtration rate or elevated urine albumin excretion rate or both. [2] It is one of the common complications of T2DM affecting around 20% to 40% of patients with diabetes and is also the leading cause of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
