My weight loss project – 7 – what is most difficult?

Gimmicks can help one lose weight, but most gimmick losers gain the weight back. Lasting weight loss really requires serious self reflection and lasting behavior changes. Behavior changes require work. Weight loss really has a simple formula – take in less calories and burn more calories. Learning to take in fewer calories for me is the bigger challenge. I do like eating, especially when the food is delicious. Over the past 4 months I have worked on training myself to work on portion sizes, eating a bit more slowly, I have changed my food choices. I have not adopted any fad diets, rather working with the same places to eat and making modifications. I have not become fanatical. I even eat dessert with some meals. But I try very hard to not overeat. I try very hard to be cognizant of my food weaknesses. I continue to work on this process. Learning when you are full and eating anyway is a big key. When you are full, stop eating. I tell myself that daily. The exercise part comes more easy. Until my mid 40s I played basketball regularly. Basketball was a great calorie burner. Over the last 2 months I have become a treadmill runner. The Nike Fuelband give me a constant reminder of my exercise. It stimulates me towards movement. I used to do treadmill running, but pes anserine bursitis limited my desire. Every time I ran, my knee would have pain. I had tried a variety of stabilizing running shoes without success.
