Mast cells initiate the vascular response to contact allergens by sensing cell stress

Mast cells (MCs) contact hypersensitivity responses, but the mode of MC activation is not yet understood. Hoppe et al. show, that MCs trigger an immediate edema formation and neutrophil infiltration by sensing cell stress concomitantly via the ATP/P2X7 and IL-33/ST2 pathway.
