Factors affecting dislocation after bipolar hemiarthroplasty in patients with femoral neck fracture

The incidence rate of hip fractures is increasing with increasing average life span and social activities in elderly patients. In this patient population, the main goal after a hip fracture is to try to return to performing daily activities at pre-fracture levels as soon as possible to prevent complications [1].

The presence of the interface transition layers was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) depth profile scans, indeed there is a very thin Al2O3 interface transition layer (interface 1, denoted as I1) produced by the natural oxidation within the Cu/Al inter...

Authors: Steardo L, Manchia M, Carpiniello B, Pisanu C, Steardo L, Squassina A Abstract Introduction: Early detection and intervention in bipolar disorder (BD) might reduce illness severity, slow its progression, and, in specific cases, even ward off the full-blown disorder. Therefore, identifying at-risk individuals and targeting them promptly before the illness onset is of the utmost importance. In the last decades, there has been a significant effort aimed at identifying genetic and molecular factors able to modulate risk and pharmacological outcomes.Areas covered: We performed a narrative review of articles aim...

The objective of this study is to track and compare acute manic symptoms for sex differences during inpatient hospitalization.MethodsAll patients with bipolar mania admitted to a large university hospital between January and October 2017 were invited to participate in this longitudinal naturalistic follow ‐up study. Manic (YMRS), depressive (MADRS), and psychotic (PAS) symptoms were tracked daily from admission to discharge.ResultsThe total YMRS scores decreased significantly overtime (p

This study aimed to investigate epigenetic modulations of the hepatic PPARγ pathway in olanzapine-induced lipid dysfunctions. Olanzapine led to significant increases of body weight gain, white adipose tissue, fasting triglyceride, and fat accumulation in the liver. A significant upregulation of PPARγ was observed in olanzapine-treated rats. ChIP-deep sequencing showed the increase of H3K4me2 binding on the whole gene loci of key regulators of adipogenesis and lipogenesis, the Pparg, Srebp-1, Cebps families (Cebpa, Cebpb and Cebpd), the Signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 families (Stat5a and Stat...

ConclusionsThe state of the pharmacoepigenetic literature on antipsychotic use is still in its early stages and uniform reporting of methylation site information is needed. Future work should concentrate on using prospective sampling with appropriate control groups and begin to replicate many of the novel associations that have been reported.

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy material analysis results verify the nickel and oxygen chemical shifts, while energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy results confirm oxygen co...

CONCLUSIONS: Although methodological limitations dictate caution in interpreting our results, these preliminary findings suggest that a "dimensional pharmacotherapy" strategy (i.e., selecting drugs based on neurobiological action rather than categorical diagnosis) for the treatment of aggression, impulsivity and activation is commonly used in daily practice and may lead to greater clinical improvement, in the absence of severe adverse effects. AbstractThere is increasing evidence to support the notion that oligodendrocyte and myelin abnormalities may contribute to the functional dysconnectivity found in the major psychiatric disorders. The putamen, which is an important hub in the cortico –striato–thalamo–cortical loop, has been implicated in a broad spectrum of psychiatric illnesses and is a central target of their treatments. Previously we reported a reduction in the numerical density of oligodendrocytes and oligodendrocyte clusters in the prefrontal and parietal cortex in sc hizophrenia. Oligodendrocyte clusters contain oligodendrocyte proge...

This study aimed to investigate the association between anticholinergic medications and the risk of dementia using data from Taiwan's National Health Research Database (NHIRD).MethodsA total of 790,240 patients, with 197,560 patients receiving anticholinergic medications and 592,680 control patients (1:3) matched for sex, age, and index-year, were enrolled from the two million Longitudinal Health Insurance Dataset, a subdataset of the NHIRD, between 2000 and 2015. The time-dependent Cox regression analysis was used to explore the hazard ratio (HR) with a 95% confidence interval for the association between anticholinergics ...
