Objectives: We studied a cohort of cancer patients that underwent curative-intent radiation within the last year of life (LYOL). Given the unexpectedly short survival, we evaluated the proportion with relapsed/refractory disease, determined causes of death, and explored whether treatment intent was associated with aggressiveness of care at the end of life. Materials and Methods: We extracted and linked claims data and radiotherapy records for patients seen at a single academic institution that died between October 1, 2014, and September 30, 2015. Results: Among 870 cancer patients, 290 were irradiated within the LY...

AbstractReduction in diversity of the intestinal microbiome (dysbiosis) is being identified in many disease states, and studies are showing important biologic contributions of microbiome to health and disease. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is being evaluated as a way to reverse dysbiosis in diseases and disorders in an attempt to improve health. The published literature was reviewed to determine the value of FMT in the treatment of medical disorders for which clinical trials have recently been conducted. FMT is effective in treating recurrentC. difficile infection in one or two doses, with many healthy donors prov...

In this study, we constructed a nude mouse xenograft model of lung cancer and administered apatinib at different doses and times to detect the normalization of reactive blood vessels through VEGF, α‐SMA, college‐ IV, HIF‐1α, and MMP. The ultrastructure of tumor blood vessels was observed by electron microscopy, and the dose and timing of apatinib‐induced normalization of lung cancer in nude mice were confirmed. Then, we observed the inhibitory effect of apatinib combined with pemetrexed on transplanted tumors of lung cancer cells in nude mice at different time points and observed whether combination pem...

AbstractWith several different CAR T cell therapies under advanced phases of clinical trials, and the first FDA-approved CAR treatments in 2017 (Yescarta and Kymriah), CAR T cell therapy has become one of the most promising therapies for the treatment of certain types of cancer. This success has bred an opportunity to optimize the production of CAR T cells for easier patient access. CAR T cell therapy is a rather expensive and personalized process that requires expensive measures to collect cells from patients, engineer those cells, and re-infuse the cells into the patient with adequate quality controls at each phase. With...

In conclusion, taller body height at the entry to adulthood, supposed to be a marker of early-life environment, is associated with lower risk of dementia diagnosis later in life. The association persisted when adjusted for educational level and intelligence test scores in young adulthood, suggesting that height is not just acting as an indicator of cognitive reserve. A Comparison of Biological Age Measurement Approaches https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2020/02/a-comparison-of-biological-age-measurement-approaches/ Researchers here assess the performance of a range of approaches to measuring biological...

Conclusion: ZNF143, as a tumor oncogene, promoted the proliferation of GC cells both in vitro and in vivo, indicating that ZNF143 might function as a novel target for GC therapy.in vitro. The downregulation of ZNF143 facilitated cell apoptosis. ZNF143 decreased the ROS level in GC cells, resulting in the reduction of cell apoptosis. Transfection with p53 reversed the antiapoptotic effect of ZNF143, while pifithrin-in vivo was examined using tumor xenograft assay. PMID: 32076462 [PubMed - in process]

ConclusionsRisk and outcome of severe oral mucositis could be ameliorated by oral cryotherapy during the administration of cytotoxic agents for allogeneic HSCT patients receiving non-radiation myeloablative conditioning regimen, and a half-course schedule could acquire a comparable efficacy compared with the whole-course schedule.
