Lauterbach et al. now show that early metabolic alterations in macrophages driven by LPS signaling serve to increase the acetyl-CoA pool via citrate metabolism by the ATP-citrate lyase (ACLY), leading to histone acetylation and regulation of TLR-driven gene expression.
