A novel approach to postrobot-assisted nephron-sparing surgery persistent urinary leak – Can we glue ?

We describe a case of a persistent urinary leak after Robot assisted nephron sparing surgery that failed to resolve after conservative treatments and was subsequently managed with computed tomography (CT) guided percutaneous cynoacrylate glue injection.

This report describes 2 cases of primary renal carcinoid tumor with unique presentations and management in our regional health care system. Because primary renal carcinoid tumors are quite uncommon, there are no clear established guidelines on preoperative imaging or posttreatment surveillance in patients with these tumors. There remains a large amount of variability in the diagnosis, workup, immunohistochemical analysis, treatment, and surveillance of patients with primary renal carcinoid tumors. As we learn more about this disease, we hope to optimize patient outcomes and standardize pretreatment workup and posttreatment...

We report a rare case of renal metastasis from primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A mass in the right kidney of a 71-year-old man was detected by follow-up computed tomography (CT) for HCC. He was diagnosed as having primary HCC 18  years ago and had undergone partial hepatectomy, transarterial chemoembolization, and pulmonary segmentectomy for primary HCC and its metastasis over 10 years. Eight years after this, follow-up CT revealed a right kidney mass, and laboratory testing showed an elevated level of protein induced by vitamin K absence II (PIVKA-II). We performed laparoscopic radical nephrectomy for th...

AbstractPurposeTo identify optimal classification methods for computed tomography (CT) radiomics-based preoperative prediction of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) grade.Materials and methodsSeventy-one ccRCC patients (31 low grade and 40 high grade) were included in this study. Tumors were manually segmented on CT images followed by the application of three image preprocessing techniques (Laplacian of Gaussian, wavelet filter, and discretization of the intensity values) on delineated tumor volumes. Overall, 2530 radiomics features (tumor shape and size, intensity statistics, and texture) were extracted from each seg...

Abstract The World Health Organization 2016 edition assigned anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangement-associated renal cell carcinoma (ALK-RCC) as an emerging renal tumor entity. Identifying ALK-RCC is important because ALK inhibitors have been shown to be effective in treatment. Here, we report the case of a 14-year-old young man with ALK-RCC. Computed tomography revealed a well-demarcated 5.3-cm enhancing mass at the upper pole of the left kidney. There was no further history or symptoms of the sickle-cell trait. The patient underwent left radical nephrectomy. Pathologically, the mass was diagnosed as an u...

ConclusionsThe single-port approach has advantages as easier surgical planning and transition for combined and multi-quadrants surgeries: faster recovery, minimal postoperative pain and need for opioids, and excellent cosmetic outcome. We suggest that combined procedures should be performed only in high volume institutions by surgeons with vast experience in robotic surgery in selected patients.ResumenIntroducciónPresentar el primer caso de cirugía multicuadrante concomitante —prostatectomía radical robótica y nefrectomía parcial robótica izquierda— realizadas con t&eac...

This study aimed to assess the role of MRI for predicting postoperative renal function by preoperative estimation of renal parenchymal volume and correlation with glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Materials and Methods A prospective observational study was conducted from February 2015 to October 2016 at a tertiary care hospital in northern India. MR imaging was done on 3 Tesla MR scanner (Signa Hdxt General Electrics, Milwaukee, USA). MR volumetry was used to estimate the renal parenchymal volume. GFR was measured in all patients using Tc99m Diethyl-triamine-penta-acetic acid using Russell ’ s algorithm. Such measure...

We report one such case of a 60-year-old woman, a known case of RCC of the left kidney who underwent nephrectomy, and on follow-up, PET/CT scan revealed diffuse thick nodular hypermetabolic left pleural thickening, which was later biopsied and turned out to be pleural metastases from RCC. No other site of metastases was found.

This study presents a case of prostate carcinoma and the tumour remission observed after administration of a personalised Dendritic cell vaccine (APCEDEN). Patient concerns: A 58 years old Caucasian male diagnosed with prostate carcinoma with GLEASON score 8. The patient had previously been diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) in 1996 and had undergone nephrectomy of the right kidney. PET CT scan revealed multiple intensely PSMA avid lesions noted in both lobes of the prostate gland with SUVmax −28.3 and the prostate gland measuring 3.2 × 3.2 cm displaying maximum dimensions. Diagnosis: FNAC fo...

We report a very rare case of LAM with malignant lymphoma. A 51-year-old female had medical history of recurrent pneumothorax and nephrectomy for a left renal angiomyolipoma and was diagnosed with LAM by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery at the age of 30. She presented with left neck mass. Computed tomography and magnetic response imaging showed multiple enlarged cervical lymph nodes. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) showed abnormal uptake in the mass. We suspected a malignant tumor or extrapulmonary lesion of LAM, and performed surgical biopsy. Pathologically, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma ...
